At Howden Church of England Infant school, we see collective worship as an integral part of the educational provision of the school. Times of collective worship strengthen and support the distinctiveness of our school, reaffirm our vision and associated values of curiosity, family, nurture, respect and joy and celebrate the central role that each child has to play in their community.

Collective worship provides a sense of togetherness and belonging and reinforces our strong emphasis on mutual kindness, love and respect for all members of our school community. We recognise that pupils have both the need and a right to develop spiritually, morally and culturally as well as mentally, physically and socially. Our collective worship programme therefore encourages the children to become aware of and engage in conversation around important moral, social and religious issues we may encounter in our school, in the local community and in the wider world.  

Children and staff have the opportunity for prayer and reflection every day and the opportunity for sung worship when the whole school meet together. Collective worship in all church schools must be in accordance with the tenets and practices of the Church of England. At Howden CE Infant School, we have planned a programme for collective worship based around our school values all of which are explored from a Christian perspective and sometimes from the perspective of another faith. 

Acts of collective worship can be whole school, phase or class based and may be led by the Head of the School, staff members, Rev Little or visitors including other members of the church community. Our 'Worship Squad' also help to lead and plan aspects of collective worship.
