Spirituality at Howden CE Infant School
Spiritual development is a key aspect of our theologically rooted vision at Howden CE Infant School.
As a staff team, we have collaborated to agree on a definition of spiritual development for our pupils and wider school community to ensure we have a shared understanding and to support us as we talk about spirituality.
Our definition of spiritual development is:
Delighting in all things by growing our understanding of:
1. Ourselves
2. The world around us
3. God
We recognise that spirituality can be a concept that some may find difficult to grasp. As a result, we use the 'Windows, Mirrors, Doors' approach to encourage our children and wider school community to learn, reflect and step out.

Promoting Spirituality
Our theologically rooted vision enables us to promote spirituality in all that we do at Howden CE Infant School.
We support children in their spiritual development by:
- Providing opportunities for spiritual development during times of collective worship.
- Providing opportunities for spiritual development during Religious Education sessions.
- Providing opportunities for spiritual development through the wider curriculum.
- Capturing opportunities for awe and wonder as they arise.
- Providing 'Reflection Spaces' in the school hall, classrooms and outdoors.
- Offering pupils opportunities to lead times for spiritual development in their role on the 'Worship Squad'.
